A spirit lion in front of a moon over a wavy sea. Or is it a ghost lion over a desert? Or a marble statue which suddenly came to life? I am not sure.
Actually this started out with a concept for a ceremonial headwear I drew the other day. One of them was shaped as a lion with the head streatching toawrds the forehead and the paws covering the cheeks of the wearer. I liked the look of the lion, opened up the sketch in photoshop and did a lineart of it, and then started colouring it. This is the result. ;D
It is NOT supposed to be realistic. It's supposed to be very stylized and painterly. So I don't care about that the face looks odd or if the lightning doesn't make sense etc. : P It was very fun and relaxing to do. ^^

Photoshop.
Almost makes me dizzy looking at it. I love the blurred and ethereal effects blended together with the muted colors. Very nice. It gets a fave from me.
Wow, this is absolutely gorgeous. There are so many artistic elements here that you have combined to work wonderfully! I like, first and foremost, the folk-art feel about the design of the lion. Somehow, it reminds me of Eastern European royal sculpture, I'm not sure why, though. The colors here are awesome, I love the orange and yellow highlights on the dark blue -- you've really captured the color scheme of moonlight. The lines fade beautifully from the design-like face to the organic lines of the mane, and I love how you've mimicked those organic curves in the waves or dunes. Beautiful job, no critiques from me!

I think....I think this may be my new favorite from you, wursudear. It is...intensely beautiful and eerily haunting. If I had it, I would pay a small fortune to have it made into a stained glass window.
