Quoth the Raven, Nevermore. by Wursu Quoth the Raven, Nevermore. by Wursu
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted–nevermore!

When reading Poe's "The Raven" for the umpteenth time the other night, I just... got this image in my head, and realised I had to illustrate it. So I did. :D I am considerably happy with it; as always there are several things I could have done better, but I am, overall, very happy with it. ^^ Tried some perspective, and I really hope it worked; that it do look as if you're up there (perched upon a bust of Pallas) with the Raven, looking down on the man. Hopefully it does not simply look as if the poor guy is confronted by a giant bird. xD

Black pen, watercolours, coloured pencils, white gel pen (just aliiiittle).
Based upon "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe; [link]

Awesome work! I've always loved that poem :love: Well illustrated, almost exactly the same picture I had in my own mind when I first read it.

Once, I tried to learn that poem by heart, but I ended up reading about Beren and Luthien instead.

It really suits the poem, this painting, and fits the mood in it really well!

Know you mentioned it, I have problems with see the picture as from above - while I was perched upon a bust of Pallas before I read your comment.
But I can see that the raven is standing on something, so I conclude that he is normal sized and upon something high.
Nice work.

Lovely! This'd make a great illustration to accompany the poem in a published anthology.

It's gorgeous! It does look like the raven is huge, but I would have thought it intentional, it looks good that way, symbolic.

I love his facial expression, it's just perfect. I also like that the raven has no pupils, it makes it look quite evil. Nice touch!

Thats a great piece of work! I think it really captures the feeling of this poem. :)

You might already know, but the awesome neo-pagan band Omnia has made a song out of this wonderful poem;

(if you like it too I can send you the original version(record in a studio) by email. Just let me know if you'd like to receive :) )
