The Stubborn Mumbling by Wursu The Stubborn Mumbling by Wursu
This is from an Otherplace/Elsewhere story about the stars. It features, among others, a stubborn mumbling, the Lake Beast, and the Grey Sister.

Nota bene that this is a photo, and that the contrast is messed up in especially the lower right half of the picture. I'll replace the file with a pretty scan as soon as I've set my new fancy smancy scanner up!

This Otherplace/Elsewhere is a book or a fanfiction?

It's my personal imaginary folklore/fantasy world, consisting of a bunch of characters, places, and stories. :) I dream of one day turning it into a webcomic or a series of short illustrated stories!

I don't see the problem with the contrast. I'd worry more about the characters looking really too simple for such a complex, intricate background.

Really nice rendering of the grass, or the body under the water.

Simple characters is a style choice in story telling images or animations, because it makes it easier for you to bind with the characters, and therefor enjoy the story/picture more :3 It is a brain thing :p

These are the "Gestalt-laws", if that's the right way in English. Also is it really used for many comics for real, and that explains why main characters often have the most simple faces you can think of, and villans often have many things going on in their characteristics :3

Well, in horror books the protagonist has to be an everyday joe or jane, because if they're too unique, outlandish it's hard to identify with them, feel as if you're in their skin. It's not something that could happen to anyone anymore - it's something that happens to weird people like them the reader would think.
For the same reason paranornmal horror is introduced with an intro where the characters do really mundane things.

So I guess simple, easily identifiable protagonists could work that way too.

The two land critters look to be of the same species as the searching antler creature.

I love your work! So awesome. At times, even adorable! Like the antler creature! Squeeee! :D

Great job! :)

The way the figures looks, and look at each other, makes me wish I knew more of the story behind it all and the lovely mossy forest wherein they dwell.
