I like when paintings have titles which doesn't make sense at all. And since I couldn't for my life come up with a good title for this, and since I really like the phrase 'the red soil', I decided to name this piece that. Through the process of painting it I always imagined this bear was walking on red-ish rocks, so it seemed to fit.
This is, quite honestly, a rather boring piece. : P The motive is very unexciting. BUT, when I sketched this, I did it quickly, because I needed to paint and I couldn't find the inspiration to continue on one of my other WIPs, so I quickly ksetched this up. I REALLY tried to do something with the lightning here - one can say, that I tried to make up with the boring motive with a nice colouring/lightning. I personally think I succeed - I am incredibly happy with how this came out. The only thing I see is that the head seems a little big, but that doesn't bother me THAT much.
Wow... this piece is beautiful. It reminds me of a book called 'Clan of the Cave Bear', part of Jane Auell's (think it's spelt like that) 'Earth's Children' series. I love how realistic it looks.
I wish this image were larger... I love this painting. Your obvious love of subject translates into well-done artworks that capture the essence of bears very well. I love everything about it: the realistic depiction of the bear, the mottled impressionist background, and the negative space (whitespace) like a snowbank, which adds a great diagonal line to the composition.
Wow, I must say, thanks a LOT for all the wonderful comments you've left in my gallery! ^^ It was wonderful to read them, and I appriciate every single word. : D
